Many things in our lives can cause Depression, and it is a low mood that often lasts for a long time or indefinitely unless help is sought. The fact that you are in a low mood it will affect your everyday life.

In a mild form, being depressed can mean just being low in spirit and with a lack of drive and motivation. It won't stop you from leading your normal life but makes everything harder to do and it seems less worthwhile. 

Becoming depressed may be caused by one big event or a situation in your life and is often driven by stress and anxiety. It might be a build-up of lots of smaller things.

This might make it harder for you to identify what's making you feel depressed.
